The London Borough of Southwark Listeni/ˈsʌðərk/ is a Lunnon burgh in sooth east Lunnon, Ingland. It is directly sooth o the River Thames an the Ceety o Lunnon, an forms pairt o Inner Lunnon.

History

Southwark got its name in the 9t century but wis first settled in the Roman period. The London Borough of Southwark wis formit in 1965 frae the umwhile aurie o the Metropolitan Borough of Southwark, the Metropolitan Borough of Camberwell, an the Metropolitan Borough of Bermondsey.

The burgh borders the Ceety o Lunnon an the London Borough of Tower Hamlets tae the north (the River Thames formin the bundary), the London Borough of Lambeth tae the wast an the London Borough of Lewisham tae the east. Tae the sooth are the London Borough of Bromley an the London Borough of Croydon.
